The St. Maurice Cemetery is located about 1 mile South of Morrisonville, in the West half of the South-West Quarter of Section 17 in Ricks Township.
The land was donated by Col. James Morrison, son-in-law of Governor Carlin. Col. Morrison was from Bellville and owned much of the land on which the town of Morrisonville was founded. He laid out the town in the fall of 1869 and donated 50 lots to those who were willing to build home and settle permanently in the new town.
Many of those buried in the St. Maurice Cemetery were parishioners of the St. Maurice Catholic Church of Morrisonville, which was organized in 1870.
The first known death to occur after the cemetery was laid out, was Theodore Langen, in August of 1876.
