High Prairie Cemetery was first named McCabe Cemetery.
The old McCabe Cemetery is now known as High Prairie Cemetery and is located in Rock Creek Township. The entrance sign reads: "High Prairie Cemetery, founded 1879, Resting Place of Pioneers"
Approximate directions to High Prairie Cemetery are difficult because all county roads are not open. It is located approximately 4-1/2 miles east of Douglass, Kansas and 3 miles North on Purity Springs Road. The cemetery is located in the northwest quarter of section 8, T29S, R5E. It is on a hill, a lake can be seen to the north in the next section.
Douglass, KS is a small city located about 12 miles south of Augusta, KS on Highway 77, in Douglass Township, just 2 1/2 miles north of the southern Butler County line. Douglass and Rock Creek Townships are adjacent to each other---Douglass on the west side of Rock Creek.
The land was settled by J. S. McCabe in early days and his first wife, Mary C., was buried there.
