Amanda Lucille (Penick) Wilkerson
Mrs. Amanda Lucille Penick Wilkerson of Nathalie, Va. died Thursday, January 15, 2009 at Halifax Regional Hospital age the age of 89.
Mrs. Wilkerson was born in Halifax County on February 6, 1919 to the late General Grant Penick Sr. and Mrs. Cora Carr Penick. She was married to the late Mr. Durelle Peck Wilkerson and was a member of Ellis Creek Baptist Church.
Mrs. Wilkerson is survived by four daughters, Ms. Mary A. Penick and Mrs. Delores Hollis, both of Alexandria, Va., Ms. Sylvia Penick of Hyattsville, Md. and Ms. Shirley Sydnor of Crystal Hill, Va.; one sister, Ms. Geanettie Penick of South Boston, Va.; one brother, Mr. John Penick of Trenton, N.J.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a devoted sister-in-law, Mrs. Mamie White of Crystal Hill, Va.; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mrs. Wilkerson were held Monday, January 19, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Ellis Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Moses Dixon Jr. officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
The family received friends at the residence of Grant Penick, 4056 Clays Mill Road, Halifax, Va.
The family is requesting no public viewing.
Funeral arrangements are by Jeffress Funeral Home, North Main Street, South Boston.
